Civil society and democracy in the age of social media

Things have changed greatly with ICT, namely Social Media. Indeed, these new communication technologies have increased the role of the actors in international relations and facilitated the emergence of other actors, such as the civil society. Therefore, we notice an increasingly impacting role of non-governmental organizations through the use of ICT. This proves the power of a civil society armed with Social Media and its fundamental role in international governance.
In this context, social media imposes new challenges to the international society, especially by reviewing the numerous notions linked to the state, such as sovereignty and territory. This is the topic discussed in the article entitled “Rethinking International Actors in the Age of Social Media”.
