Dr. Tuomo Melasuo is Professor Emeritus of Peace and Conflict Research as well as former Director of TAPRI, Tampere Peace Research Institute, University of Tampere, and Docent in Political History, University of Turku, Finland. He has studied contemporary political history, political science and international relations in Finland and in France. Professor Melasuo is specialized on North Africa and the Mediterranean world, especially on political, cultural and social history since the beginning of the colonialism. During last three decades, since creating the TAPRI Mediterranean Studies Project, Tuomo Melasuo has been active in Euro-Mediterranean relations. He is or has been member of many scientific, cultural and civil society bodies such as the Advisory Council of Anna Lind Foundation, Academic Advisory Council in the Center for Mediterranean Dialogues of the New York University, in steering committees of Femise, IASKS and of Sihmed. On more global level Professor Melasuo has served as the Vice-President of the MOST (Management of Social Transformation, Unesco) representing Western Europe and North America as well as representative of Finland in Unesco’s Euro-Arab Task Force for Dialogue.
